Jonathan’s Hot Take: They are one of those tools that are super useful when you need to drill holes bigger than a typical twist drill or with a flat bottom. Every woodworker should own some forstner bits BUT they get beat up. There’s so much steel moving around in a tight location that they get hot and lose their edge after a while (see tips and tricks below to get max life). This is one of those tools that buying super high end is never worth it. I think these mid grade CMT bits are the best value in Forstner Bits. As you know, I believe in bringing you the best value in tools. Sometimes that doesn’t mean the best of the best but the best value. High end bits are 2x-3x more expensive and run the same risks of overheating. You can not beat the price to quality ratio of these forstner bits and if you get the set and dull a bit with heavy use it can easily be replaced by the many individual ones we carry.

Big fan of these! They cut very cleanly, and after watching Jonathan's video on how to properly use these bits, I'm not overheating and wrecking them by accident anymore.
Did the job it was designed for, cutting holes in birch plywood.
I got this to replace a bit that seemed to be burning more than cutting. It works great leaving clean, burn-free holes in hardwood. I also watched Jonathan's video on using Forstner bits and reducing my drill press speed seems to have made a huge difference as well
These bits are very sharp, they've a balanced weight to them. The cutting heads goes through 2 × 4's like butter without any stoppage or stalling...this was a great purchase.
I like that I can buy replacements for more larger set. I did find that my bit dulled and overheated easily when drilling thru red oak stair railing, Spider spade bits were a better option for hogging out the hole, and then I finished the cut with this bit. I am happy with it and would recommend it. Just understand it does have limitations.
