Katz-Moses Miter Rail
Choose options
Wooden miter rails expand, contract, and introduce slop. That slop compounds into error across every cut you make. The Katz-Moses Miter Rail eliminates that problem entirely.
This bearing-guided, expandable aluminum miter rail delivers a perfectly consistent, zero-slop fit in any standard miter slot, regardless of season or shop humidity. One rail replaces the two wooden runners you've always had to wrestle with, and it glides like nothing else on the market. 80% less friction than wooden runners. It's like your jig is on ice skates.
Installation takes less than five minutes. Our custom indexing hardware features a threaded thumbtack-style pin that registers your sled base perfectly. Press your plywood down onto the pins, slide it off, and drive screws from the underside. No super glue squeeze out. No precise hole drilling from the top. No guesswork. No starting over.
The 1/4"-20 threaded holes along the rail let you attach knobs, handles, stops, or a dial indicator for precision machine tuning and jig making. And because the pins ultra-index your workpiece, you can remove the rail, move it to another jig, and reinstall it without losing squareness or accuracy — something no wooden runner system can offer.
Paired with the KM Crosscut Sled Kit and the Jig Square, you can build dead-accurate crosscut sleds in a fraction of the time.
The miter rail is also great for building things like:
-
Crosscut sled
-
Tenon jig
-
Bridle joint jig
-
Jointing sled for ripping and tapering
-
Box joint jig
-
Small parts sled
-
Precision miter gauge
The Katz-Moses Miter Rail is available in two different lengths (8” and 20”), making it great for any size table. Use it on a table saw, bandsaw, or router table. The rail also features ¼"-20 threaded holes along its length, allowing you to bolt on knobs, handles, stops, or a dial indicator for precision tuning.
Installation
Installing the miter rail takes less than 5 minutes:
-
Place washers or coins under your miter rail so that the red face is slightly proud of the surface. Important: make sure you have washers in between each pair of registration tacks.
-
Place the miter rail into the miter slot of your table saw, bandsaw, or router table. Ensure it is expanding away from you.
-
Adjust the expansion screw (closest to the user) to set the bearing width. You only need to tighten until there is no slop. No need to overtighten. Tighten the locking screw (farthest from the user) to lock it in place.
-
Press your plywood jig onto the thumbtack-style locating pins. Make sure to push down over the top of both (8”) or all three (20”) registration tacks.
-
Slide (don’t lift) the jig out, flip the jig over, and drive screws from the underside.
In addition to making setup super easy, these pins allow you to index your sled. That means you can remove the miter rail from a jig, or even move it to a different jig entirely. When you’re ready to reinstall it, you can do so just as accurately as the first time. That's never been possible with a wooden runner system.
Installation note: The base of your jig must be long enough to cover the entire length of the miter rail. Leaving the tops of the bearings exposed could result in damaged bearings.

Jonathan's Hot Take
3 years. 11 factories. 75 samples. Over 500 test jigs. I'm not exaggerating when I say this was one of the hardest things we've ever designed. And I've never been more proud of a result.
If you've ever wrestled with a runner that's too tight, too loose, or somewhere in between depending on the season — this is the fix. And it's the last one you'll ever need.
This miter rail fixes all of it. The bearing-guided expansion gives you a fit that feels like an ice skate — fast, smooth, and perfectly consistent every single time. No fussing. No adjusting. No blue tape.
What I'm most proud of is the indexing pin system. The ability to pull a rail off a jig, move it somewhere else, put it back, and not lose your accuracy? That's never existed before. And for woodworkers who are building multiple jigs or working in small shops where space is tight, that's a big deal.
If you’re ready to stop wasting time fiddling with jigs and start making, this is for you.
